State Senate Democratic Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins knows about breaking barriers--she is the first woman to lead a state legislative conference in New York.
Stewart-Cousins told the Daily News she is primed to back Hillary Clinton--the former First Lady-turned US senator from New York-turned US Secretary of State--in her bid to become the first woman president.
"As a longtime supporter and friend of the Secretary, I look forward to helping her break yet another glass ceiling and know that she will be a strong voice for everyday Americans," Stewart-Cousins said.
The Westchester County Democrat joins US Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Gov. Cuomo and other top state Democrats in quickly backing Clinton's presidential bid.
A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie would not say whether Heastie is backing Clinton.
Mayor de Blasio is the highest-profile New York Dem not to throw his support behind the New York resident. Instead, the liberal leader who served as her campaign manager for her successful 2000 US Senate run said he will wait until she outlines her "actual vision."
