Oswego County redistricting plan challenged by legislator

The Oswego County legislature redistricting process appears to be turning into a political brouhaha.

Oswego County legislator Daniel Farfaglia, D-Fulton, says the county planning department used the wrong numbers to redistrict the county’s 25 legislative districts. He also charges Republican lawmakers are pushing the process through with little or no input from their Democrat counterparts. Finally, the redistricting plan is not being done in the best interests of residents.

“This is what you get with a partisan secretive process,” he said. “Providing bad or misleading data to justify a plan that is unfair to voters and harms community interests in inexcusable.”

Farfaglia said the redistricting plan moves some county residents unnecessarily to new legislative districts, splits communities between too many legislators and places towns with no common interests together in legislative districts.
