Congresswoman Buerkle Agrees with Todd Akin - Does She Agree with Mitt Romney Too?

It took nearly a week for Congresswoman Buerkle to admit she agrees with Todd Akin that a woman should be denied the right to choose - even in cases of rape or incest.  She is still silent on Mitt Romney’s 47% comments.

Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, Co-chair of the Women for Romney Coalition, is still silent five days after Mitt Romney’s 47% comments were publicly released.  This comes as no surprise given that it took her nearly a week to respond to Todd Akin’s appalling comments.  And when she did finally respond, Rep. Buerkle confirmed that she agrees with Todd Akin that a woman should be denied a right to choose - even in cases of rape or incest.  Rep. Buerkle and Todd Akin also co-sponsored H.R. 3 together which attempted to redefine rape.

“Does Congresswoman Buerkle think 57% of Central New Yorkers are people who view themselves as entitled to handouts and unwilling to take personal responsibility for their lives?”  said Maffei campaign spokesperson Marc Brumer.  “Given that it took Congresswoman Buerkle nearly a week to admit she agrees with Todd Akin that a woman should be denied the right to choose - even in cases of rape or incest, it’s not surprising she has not yet responded to Mitt Romney’s 47% remarks.  Republicans across the country have said they disagree with Mitt Romney, so should Congresswoman Buerkle.”

Sen. Scott Brown, Senate Candidate Linda McMahon, and numerous other Republicans across the country have said they disagree with Romney’s comments.
