The NYS Independence party continued its string of early endorsements today by backing Democratic US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s re-election bid, before Republicans have even picked a candidate. The party backed Gillibrand in 2010 as well.

“We are thrilled to once again endorse Kirsten Gillibrand for U.S. Senate,” said Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay. “In just three short years, Senator Gillibrand has hit the ground running and developed a record of accomplishment in the Senate that would be impressive for any Senator, let alone someone so new to Washington. Kirsten is a strong voice and true champion for New York families and she has the right vision to create jobs and grow our economy. We are excited to watch Kirsten continue to deliver for New York State over the next six years.”
The party is acting quicker than normal in this election cycle. Usually they wait until closer to election day to make an official endorsement of candidates, but so far this year chairman MacKay has already held events backing Republican state Senators Mark Grisanti and Roy McDonald, two of the four GOP members who voted in favor of same-sex marriage.
