Legislators required to disclose potential conflicts of interest

Section 803 of General Municipal Law requires municipal officials who have or will have an interest in any actual or proposed contract with the municipality to publicly disclose the nature and extent of that interest in writing.

Legislators are expected to file disclosures of interest shortly after their terms begin, county Clerk of the Board Susan Crabtree said. If any other potential conflicts arise during their terms, they should then file another disclosure, she said.
