Scott Murphy is Dems’ pick for Congress

The Democratic county committee chairs of New York's 20th Congressional District have nominated Scott Murphy, a Glens Falls businessman and party activist, as their choice to fill Kirsten Gillibrand's former seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"This was a unanimous decision after an intensive, exhausting and thorough vetting process," according to a release from the Columbia County Democratic Party, one of the 10 counties that is wholly or partially in a district that stretches from Saranac Lake to the outskirts of Poughkeepsie.

The Republicans nominated Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco of Glenville last week. Although Tedisco lives in Schenectady County, outside the 20th District, he represents much of Saratoga County in the state Assembly, and his wife owns a home in Saratoga.
